Project Features:
Beam Designs partnered with JMS Engineers to provide structural calculations and engineering expertise for alterations to a prominent London synagogue celebrated for its community importance. The project focused on delivering a two-storey rear extension to house a Rabbinical college, additional accommodation, and a mikvah in the basement.
The team carefully designed and detailed the reinforced concrete basement to ensure the mikvah’s structural integrity and stability. A robust steel frame was engineered to support the extension, allowing for increased internal space and reconfigured roof profiles.
To preserve the synagogue’s historic character, JMS Engineers implemented sensitive façade retention techniques alongside precise excavation works. The project also involved comprehensive structural assessments and modifications to the internal steelwork, improving the building’s functionality. JMS Civils team designed advanced drainage systems to address the property’s specific requirements, ensuring modern enhancements were seamlessly integrated with the existing structure.
